EVERYONE DESERVES A HOME

At UCEF, we believe that everyone deserves a home.  We provide compassionate listening, focused referrals, and financial assistance to prevent homelessness.

UCEF was created in 1986 to provide information, referral and financial assistance to people in need residing in Northeast Seattle and to the homeless.

Our services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship status, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.

 

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Renters in Washington State need to earn at least $23.64 per hour to afford a basic two-bedroom apartment.

  • In King County, it takes a full-time wage of $24.02 per hour to afford the fair-market one-bedroom apartment.

  • Minimum wage in King County is $16.39 per hour.

  • For every 100 extremely low-income families in King County, earning less than $23,400 a year for a family of three, there are only 29 affordable apartments available.

  • School districts across the state of Washington identified 40,934 students in K-12 schools as having experienced homelessness during the 2016-17 academic year, a 3.2 percent increase over the previous year and more than double the number from just nine years ago.

  • Seattle Public Schools, 4,280 students experienced homelessness in the 2016-2017 school year.

 

Prevention is Key

Our focus is to provide eviction protection to keep families and individuals from becoming homeless, and to provide assistance to homeless families or individuals moving into housing.​
